Orphan (2009 movie)





Overview
Orphan is a 2009 psychological thriller directed by Jaume Collet-Serra. The film primary centers on a couple who, after the death of their unborn child, adopt a strange 9-year old girl.

Orphan was produced by Joel Silver and Susan Downey of Dark Castle Entertainment and Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran of Appian Way Productions. The film received varied critical reviews but Fuhrman's performance as Esther was highly praised.

Orphan was released on DVD and Blu-ray on October 27, 2009 in the US by Warner Home Video. The home media contains alternate scenes and footage, and one alternate ending marketed on the DVD cover.

Short details of the story
The catastrophic loss of their unborn child has overwhelmed Kate (Vera Farmiga) and John (Peter Sarsgaard) captivating a toll on both their marriage and Kate's fragile psyche as she is plagued by nightmares and obsessed by demons from her history. Struggling to recover some appearance of normalcy in their lives, the couple decides to adopt a new child.

At the local orphanage, both John and Kate find themselves peculiarly pinched to a young girl named Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman). Almost as almost immediately as they greet Esther into their home, however, an disturbing sequence of events starts to unfold, leading Kate to consider that there's somewhat wrong with Esther—this apparently innocent little girl is not what she appears to be. Worried for the protection of her family, Kate tries to obtain John and others to see past Esther's sweet facade. But her warnings go unheeded until it may be too behind...for everyone.
